Physical activity has healed me and keeps me mentally sane. Being in great physical shape just happens to be a perk of it!

I just turned 30 and am in the best shape of my life, mentally, spiritually and physically. I have tennis, running, strength training, Pilates, yoga and biking to thank. I'm in the middle of training for my second marathon. One thing that keeps me going is the knowledge that one day I might not have the physical abilities I enjoy now. I'm taking full advantage of being able to pound out hours of yoga and strength training, miles of running, hundreds of shots on the court and maintain the energy to do so.

MS has stripped my mom of her energy and some physical abilities, and I don't ever want to look back and think "I could have done more." I plan on looking back and thinking, "Man, I lived it up in that youthful body I had!"

Running is my passion: the peace that comes from hours of praying, running, beating the pavement alone, the friendships and hours of conversation of group runs, the achievement of setting new PRs and accepting that YOU alone are your biggest competitor. Next month I get my RRCA running coach certification so I can help others maximize their running, perform efficiently, and crank out that runner's high on a daily basis! We constantly "give" to our job, our families, our friends - working out is the time you can be justifiably, incredibly selfish and concentrate on you, your body, your abilities - and escape the phone, the computer screen, TV, all the noise and obligations of "life" in general. When you're on the road, at the gym, on your mat or on the court YOU decide how hard you push, YOU decide how fast you go, YOU decide to keep going.
